Dear Students, Staff, Parents and Community members,

I write this letter with a very heavy heart as the events and details of yesterday’s events at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas continue to come to light.  Our thoughts and prayers are with the students and families of this school community at their tragic losses.

I wanted to take this opportunity to let you all know that RSU #38/ Maranacook Area Schools continue to place student safety at the forefront of the work we do.  I visited each school during the course of the morning and can report that all buildings are following safety protocols that have been developed and previously implemented.  In addition:.

  • Administrators are reviewing individual building safety plans, convening emergency teams, and talking with all staff about protocols and procedures that keep students and staff safe while in our care.

  • All buildings have exterior and interior cameras that are monitored regularly.

  • All buildings have locked doors with badge access to staff only.

  • All buildings have had safety drills during the course of the school year.

  • We are fortunate to have several law enforcement personnel located within our communities and many showed a presence at our various schools during the course of the day.

  • Over the course of the summer and fall we will be reviewing, updating and implementing our emergency plans to reflect best practices.

RSU #38 schools' foundational structures have been and will continue to be about building relationships and being a caring school environment. All of our staff work together to provide trusted, respectful and valued relationships with the students in our care.  If you have any concerns about students please reach out so we can support and guide you to appropriate resources that are available through the schools. If you see something, say something is our expectation.

We encourage you to have conversations with your children about recent events and offer the following resources as starting points:

Over the remaining school days for this school year please know that the safety of students and staff will remain a top priority.  If you have any questions about procedures or your child’s well being please contact your school’s principal.

We recognize the trust you have placed in our school staff to keep your students safe.  We will be vigilant and do everything in our power to make sure everyone has a safe, happy, and positive end to this school year.

Sincerely,

James Charette

Superintendent RSU #38
