October 27, 2023
Dear parents,
We are prepared to welcome students back on Monday, October 30th. We will start the day with a 2-hour delay to review with our building staff emergency protocols and prepare resources for members of our school community. I want to personally reassure you that our schools are ready to reopen safely. Despite the trauma our community has endured, getting students back into their regular learning routine is an essential step in the healing process.
Our administrative team has spent time reviewing and strengthening our emergency protocols. Staff have been assigned to monitor entrances, and only essential personnel will be allowed into buildings. We will maintain enhanced security procedures until further notice.
Please note the following important points:
Students should not arrive any earlier than 9:30 to give staff the important time to prepare for students’ return.
Dismissed students need to be picked up no later than 2:30 pm. We discourage students from walking home and recommend parent pick-up or school transportation.
No breakfast will be served on Monday so that our food service staff may participate in the staff review of our emergency protocols.
Outdoor activities will be canceled until further notice.
Our educators are committed to providing a caring and supportive environment for our students during this difficult time. Counselors are available for any student who needs assistance.
While we know our children are anxious to reconnect with friends, activities, and athletics will be curtailed in the short term out of an abundance of caution. The Haunted Halloween Walk has been canceled. Our focus is on meeting students' emotional needs and resuming academic routines in a safe, reassuring environment.
I would be remiss if I did not remind parents and caregivers in our communities that sending your child(ren) to school is a personal decision based on your comfort level with the ongoing situation. Please communicate with your child's school on your plans as needed. The following are resources we recommend for additional support:
Despite the shadow cast over our community, the outpouring of support in recent days reminds us that we are resilient when united. Thank you for entrusting your children's care and education to us. We do not take this responsibility lightly. Please reach out to your child’s Principal with any questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Jay Charette, Superintendent
